Explorer Post member is hired by City of New Berlin Fire Dept.

By E.O. Brian Kaminski  New Berlin FD Explorer Post 193,  Asst. Advisor

New Berlin Fire Dept. Explorer Post 193 member Joel Konkel, 19,
was recently hired by the City of New Berlin Fire Dept.  Joel has been a
member of Post 193 for 3 yrs.  Joel says he always wanted to be a firefighter
and now his dream has come true.  Joel says being on the post helped him
greatly in his time in school taking State Certified Level 1 Firefighting
and Emergency Medical Technician- Basic Level (EMT-B).   He says that the Post
Advisor's gave him the proper motivation and learned greatly to get where   he is
today.

Fire Chief Edward Dobernig of NBFD. says that Joel had to pass a
comprehensive psychological test , a difficult physical agility test,
and pass through a oral interview.  The Chief thought he was excellent
candidate to be a member of the fire dept.
Asst. Fire Chief Fred Schultz, also with NBFD, and Chief in charge
the post, says that being a member of the post has been good experience for
Joel, and it shows that if you apply yourself,  you can get where you want to
go.
Joel and the other Post 193 Explorers meet twice a month.  During
those meetings, Advisors Bob Jeske and Brian Kaminski lead them through
various scenarios related to fire fighting and emergency medical
services. Joel has also shared his knowledge with the Boy Scouts -- as an
instructor at the Post's Fire Safety Merit Badge clinic and as a judge at the
Southern Trails First Aid Meet.
